Brandon Pond
Every week, I drive my daughter to her skating lesson at 8:15 and at 8:00 am I pass this beautiful reflection on the pond off the highway. I notice it every time. Finally got to paint it.

Four Below Zero
OK, I just got back from Lake Placid where it was four below, now it doesn't seem so cold here. Now I really want to paint snow. Here's one, more to come.

Back Yard
Different times of day, different light, different colors. Makes it a new scene each time and I never have to leave my porch! This is good since I haven't had much time to travel lately. Flying to Baltimore tonight, maybe I'll get some good reference.

As I Was Leaving
Doing my usual motion photography while driving through Sonoma Wine Country. Good reference for impressionism if you can paint there first and know some of the light.

Back From California
Just recovering from California trip. Petaluma Workshop with Camille Prezwodek was very interesting/informative. I actually got to paint still lifes and figures again which I haven't done since my Parson's days. She's all about color and the Cape Cod School of Art and I learned a lot. Here are some of my workshop studies. Will post some post-California landscapes soon.

Hurricanes
Hurricane Season is back and there have been storm bands in the Gulf for a week. The constant pounding on the sea wall call to me to capture, what? movement, power, balance, force? It's that moment in time again, so difficult to make time stand still.

Boat Rides
Take me away from all that, out to the open Bay. Nothing but boats, birds, sky, water and the occasional island. Simplifies enough to just paint the light.

Miss Italy
I think I need to get back there to paint some more. Or at least somewhere with mountains.

A New Painting of an old subject
Missing Italy, we just sent away for new passports. Hoping to paint in Spain sometime this year. Will be painting in Petaluma in five weeks though! Can't wait.

Dog Days of Summer
I'm not going out as much now due to the heat. Doing a lot of painting from pictures. Six weeks until I go to Petaluma to paint though. Four more weeks and I'll be able to get out here more.

Small, Smart and Sassy Summer Show
Went to Clearwater, FL this week to set up show that will run for a month at the Artist Cooperative Gallery on Cleveland Street in Clearwater. Come and see "Two Dogs Swimming", "Long Beach Shadows," or some of my smaller boat paintings among other TESA artist's work. Well, gotta go paint!

Oops Forgot
Hi. Haven't posted in two weeks. I've been away to Pennsylvania. But I did get to paint a duck pond in Concord last week, and under my dock today.

Sanibel Island
I went to Sanibel Island again last weekend, with my daughter. We got up at 5:30 am to collect shells with flashlights before anyone got up. I didn't get to paint but took photos of the sunrise. Here is a painting I did this week at home from one of the photos.

Happy July 4
OK, Its July 5th. But I couldn't post from the beach!. The Beach, always reminds me of being a kid. Here are a few beach paintings, couldn't resist.

Good Morning
It's early in the morning, my favorite time to paint. Will go to Sanibel this weekend with my daughter, hope to take some good pictures and maybe even paint one or two. See you there.

Rained
Rained again today. Oh well, painted from an old pond photograph, changed the lighting a bit. What do you think?

Smaller Boat on the Rocks
I love Fort Desoto. It's probably the only untouched place within a half hour from where I live and even though there's a beach and a snack bar, you can still find places along the road that seem deserted all along the causeway and small deserted vessels, tied up behind the trees.

Boat on the Rocks
Was away all week at a skating competition in Atlanta. I'm so glad to be back with my pastels. Here's a new take on an old subject for me, a boat on the rocks off of Shell Island, FL. Enjoy!

Moving Water
There's just something about moving water that captures my attention. Perhaps because it's so difficult to catch. But still, I can't help but continuously attempt it.

Went to the Westgate River Ranch in Lake Whales last weekend for our annual hayride, barbeque and rodeo. Also went on a swamp buggy ride. Did two paintings too!

Painting Weather
Boy is it getting nice out. The first study I did was a blue boat that bounced around a lot and ended up in the trash. So I did a study of where the water meets the sand. That moves too but with a rhythm I can understand.

Here are some new paintings from photos Joe and I took in France. I didn't get to do much plein air while I was there but there was a lot to paint!

Lake Lure, NC
Still have our cabin in Lake Lure. What a beautiful place that is. Every time I see a reflection, I want to paint it. I think I need to have a "Reflections" show somewhere. I've posted a Florida Marsh Reflection I painted also.

Myakka
Beautiful Myakka calls to me often. It's one of those untouched areas so rare now. Mornings are especially still.

Comparison
Guess I'm into comparisons this month. Some paintings from South Carolina to compare with my CT paintings. Hilton Head was very private and hard to find spots. Although when found, the spots were incredible and the light sublime.

Comparison
It's interesting that when I was in Tuscany last summer, my paintings really didn't pay too close attention to the architecture there. While in Rome, the architecture was everything. Here are some of my Montelcino paintings.
Wanted to post these photos from my Connecticut trip. Lyme, CT is such a beautiful place. Too bad I never noticed how beautiful Connecticut was when I was growing up there. I'd go back here to paint any day. The American Impressionist Museum there is really interesting also! The Lyme Art Society has some really terrific artists in it. The show at the Art Society was incredible. Here are a few of my plein air pieces from that week.
